Climate Change Workshop – Edinburgh

Come & tell us about the changes you’d like to see in your local area! Register your interest to join a workshop in Edinburgh City Centre on Mon 10th July and have your say on how Scotland responds to the climate emergency. More info at: https://tinyurl.com/EDNBURGH

We’re looking for people’s views on changes needed in Edinburgh as we tackle and adapt to the changing climate, in particular views on transport and how we make our homes and buildings more energy-efficient. We’re asking anyone interested to sign up – we’ll confirm places a week ahead of the event (we are limiting numbers to a max of 20 per event so if we’re lucky enough to be over-subscribed, not everyone who registers will be able to attend). Once selected we’ll issue info packs to people a few days prior to the event. Participants will be paid £50 to thank them for attending.

The Scottish Government is holding a series of workshops across Scotland on climate change policy. Scotland is at the forefront of delivering a just transition to net zero by 2045, with an ambitious interim target of a 75% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030. Significant change is needed in the years ahead and this will impact on all of our daily lives. The places we live in will need to adapt to the changing climate and to find a sustainable path to reducing emissions. The transformation needed can only be achieved with the endorsement of, and active engagement with, the public.

We want to hear from members of the public about the changes that will be needed, particularly relating to transport, buildings and adaptation to the changing climate. We will discuss topics including how we improve the accessibility of public transport, how we reduce demand for car use and how we improve the energy efficiency of our homes and buildings.

Please note that registering only indicates an expression of interest, and the person registering will be contacted at least a week in advance to confirm their space and be provided with more information, support and resources. This is done to avoid the workshop being over-subscribed and to ensure that a balanced mix of voices is being heard. There will be further opportunities to engage on the policies being developed.

The event is open to anyone with ties to the local community in Edinburgh. This includes local residents, community group members, local business owners, volunteers, council members or others who want to share their views on the challenges and opportunities for a just transition to net zero in Edinburgh.

All participants will receive a £50 voucher as a gift of thanks for attending and participating in the session. Light refreshments will also be provided. Participants are responsible for their travel to and from the workshop, but the workshop organisers will be in touch to help cater for any special needs.
