For some time I had been talking about the woods, the state of their upkeep, the nudges to the owners to carry out maintenance required under the conservation area and the tree preservation order, and I’d always wanted the residents to get together and do something about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Having seen other ‘Friends of’ groups throughout Edinburgh who had banded together to look after their own green areas, I always thought that this was a great idea, the only problem being was that one group already owned the east woods and a separate group owned the meadow and west woods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was around this time that one of my neighbours saw that the east woods up for auction in August, starting from a mere \u00a31. This is when we began the move to get the residents together, formalise a group, and see if we could buy the woods to maintain and perhaps even encourage the woodland and wildlife there.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
