Greenbank Woods Ltd comprises of a number of local residents of Greenbank village who manage the company that owns the local woods and represents the wider Greenbank community.
The company is in the early stages and has just recently purchased the eastern portion of the woodland around Greenbank village. While the company owns the woods, it is looked after by an officially recognised ‘Friends of’ group, Friends of Greenbank Woods.
Friends of Greenbank Woods has over seventy local residents as members, and growing, and they have plans to maintain and grow the woodland, and try to secure more for community ownership.
Who are the people behind Greenbank Woods?
Richard Brunton
Director, Steering Committee Member, Resident
Resident since 2004 and regular user of the woods and hills around us for dog walking, trail running, mountain biking and a love of photography. Over the years I’ve sadly seen the thinning of the west woods and heard other residents talk about the lack of care and use of the meadow. With trail running taking me through many areas in Edinburgh looked after by ‘Friends of’ groups I began to wonder if we could do that here.
