West Lothian Takes a Leap Forward in Climate Action with Community-Led WLCAN Hub
The Scottish Government has agreed to fund the West Lothian Climate Action Network (WLCAN) to allow them to create a Climate Action Hub for the first time in West Lothian.
Funding of £149,235 has been secured for the remaining period of 2023-24, with the potential to extend until March 31st 2026, subject to final budgetary approval by the Scottish Government.
The Hub will commence its operations by launching an initial round of the Eco Development Fund program, welcoming applications from both established and aspiring climate action groups. Successful applicants will be announced at a ‘Green Gathering’ which will be held on the 29th January 2024 in Howden Park Centre with speakers from successful Climate Action Projects and an opportunity for local groups to showcase and promote the work of their own organisations.
In addition, The West Lothian Climate Action Network Hub (WLCAN Hub) is recruiting four staff members: a full-time Senior Development Worker, two part-time Development Workers and a part-time Communications Worker. These staff members will have the flexibility to work from community locations or remotely. They are seeking passionate and enthusiastic individuals to spearhead this groundbreaking project. This is an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of community climate action in West Lothian by pioneering a model of localised, collaborative grassroots support. If your community group or organisation isn’t yet a member of WLCAN, Membership allows you to qualify for the Eco Development Fund, gives your group a voice in decision-making and the opportunity to serve on the Steering Group giving strategic advice on the Hub’s priorities.
