Marine Mural Artwork, North Berwick, 25 March

North Berwick Harbour, Saturday 25 March

1pm to 4pm

If you are going to be in North Berwick on 25 March, why not visit the iconic harbour for the launch of a unique, colourful mural artwork by an award-winning local artist? The mural is unique because it’s been created entirely from plastic waste collected from a nearby beach. The artwork aims to raise awareness of the plastic pollution in our seas and the serious damage it causes to our marine environment.

County resident Elizabeth Vischer challenged herself to complete 100 beach cleans. Over a 200 metre stretch of beach at Longniddry Bents, she collected over 25,000 pieces of plastic. Over half of them have been used in the eight metre mural, one of the largest of its kind.

Accompanying the mural is a photography exhibition documenting the beach cleans and the creation of the mural. The exhibition will be free to view during the event on 25 March but will be on display for around 3 months as part of the Scottish Seabird Centre‘s Discovery Experience if you wish to visit at a later date.

The artwork was the idea of Jerba Campervans and Caledonian Horticulture and was commissioned in partnership with North Berwick Harbour Trust
