Network Community Resilience Project with Network for Social Change

SCCAN are working with the Network for Social Change on an adaptation project to support community climate resilience.
This project aims to increase the capacity of local communities across the UK to sustain themselves and adapt in the face of mounting disruption from climate change and other sources.
It is designed to contribute to a more general vision of community empowerment, care and togetherness, with a commitment to inclusive methods such as deliberative democracy. It will link climate action to improved wellbeing, connecting grassroots action to local and central government policies, increasing links across sectors and collaboration between communities.
We recognise that the scale of the climate crisis, and other systemic issues such as social and economic injustice, cannot be rectified by any one project, but believe that strengthening the social infrastructure of local communities is one of the most effective interventions.
Building Resilient Communities with National Lottery

Using information from the International Transformational Resilience Coalition (ITRC), a UN Race to Resilience Partner, SCCAN will design and deliver four online workshops, providing community participants with tools and techniques to foster individual and community resilience and community cohesion.
Resources accompanying the sessions will be available to all on our website, covering the role of resilience building in facing the climate and nature emergencies for community groups to begin conversations with their wider community.
Bob Doppelt, ITRC founder, emphasises that our planet’s health is tied to human well-being. The project goal is to equip participants with the skills and tools to build and maintain individual and community resilience, fostering cohesive and safe communities.
For those interested in forming an ongoing community of practice, we will set up a series of online sharing events.
SCCAN are planning a series of 4 (online) sessions in September 2025.
We wish to express thanks to support from National Lottery Awards for All and players of the National Lottery.
Climate communications project with Uplift

SCCAN aims to develop a communication strategy to better engage audiences who may currently feel disconnected from climate action.
This project will explore effective messaging approaches and will produce a strategy, a language and framing handbook, and a training programme to boost members’ media literacy and ability to counter misinformation and promote the benefits of climate action.
For this work we are grateful to receive support from Uplift, an organisation which supports efforts to create a rapid and fair transition away from oil and gas production in the UK.
Climate Community Online Networking Platform with Transition Together

SCCAN continue to partner with Transition Together to provide an online space for those working within community climate action to connect, share, learn and support each other via Vive, an easy-to-use, ethical social media platform.
