List of climate, environment and community funding available in December 2025.

Funding available from Scottish Climate Action Hubs

Highlands And Islands Community Climate Action Fund: Highlands And Islands Climate Hub are offering their members small grants of up to £1,000 to help fund new community organisations or launch a climate action project. Applications are accepted at any time.

East Lothian Climate Hub Climate and Nature Action Grants: Grants of up to £10,000 are available to East Lothian community groups to help them deliver action for climate and nature. Community groups must be a member of ELCAN to be eligible to apply. Applications are accepted at any time.


General Funding

‘Healthy Planet, Healthy people’ Catalyst Award: Funding is available to support new and existing research projects that promote the health of individuals through fostering healthy environments and communities, and enabling access to healthy food. Community-based individuals or organisations would receive an award amount of £5,000 to conduct a research project for up to 12 months. Deadline: Thursday 4th December.

2026 Ashden Awards: Entries for the 2026 Ashden Awards are open now. This year’s awards will support pioneers protecting and restoring nature or widening access to clean energy. Winners will receive up to £40,000 in grant funding, global media exposure and the opportunity to participate in Ashden’s wider programmes and alumni network. Deadline: Monday 8th December.

SSEN Renewables Hydro Community Fund: Provides grants of £10,000 to £100,000 to projects in selected community council areas that host SSE Renewables hydro power structures. Fund priorities include to develop and improve community assets and infrastructure such as paths. Deadline: Saturday 13th December.

Aviva Community Fund: Offers match funding grants of up to £50,000 for UK projects that align with Aviva’s funding areas of financial wellbeing and climate action. The ‘refreshed fund’ for small charities is expected to launch from early 2026. Deadline: Monday 15th December.

Calisen Impact Charitable Trust: Offers grants of up to £10,000 to UK registered charities to support projects that align with the Trust’s core objectives. These include Youth Empowerment, Hospice and Palliative Care, Community-Based Social Benefit Projects, Community-Led Environmental Action and Net-Zero and Energy Efficiency Projects. Deadline: Wednesday 31st December.

SSE Sustainable Development Fund: Provides funding of £30,000+ for strategic projects in the Highlands area. Deadline: 20th January 2026.

Urban Forestry Challenge Fund: Offers small grants of between £2,000 and £20,000 and large grants of between £20,000 and £100,000 to support projects that increase tree coverage and green spaces in urban areas. It is open to non profit registered or constituted bodies such as charities and community groups. Deadline: 23rd January 2026.

SUEZ Communities Fund: Provides grants of between £3,000 and £50,000 to projects in Scotland that are located within 10 miles of a Landfill Site. Next Deadline: 18th February 2026.

Sustrans – Love Your Network Grant: This programme supports communities living near the National Cycle Network to maintain and improve spaces along local paths and support wildlife conservation. Funding will take the form of equipment and training bundles of up to £1,000 in value. Deadline: 26th February 2026.

Workplace Charging Scheme: Provides support for UK organisations towards the cost of installing up to 40 electric vehicle chargepoint sockets at their sites. Deadline: 31st March 2026.

Borders Tree Grant Scheme: Grants of up to £1,000 are available to support the planting of individual or small clumps of trees in the Scottish Borders countryside. Applications are open to organisations and individuals in the Scottish Borders local authority area. Planting projects must be less than 0.25ha in size. Deadline: Spring 2026.


Ongoing funds/rolling deadlines

John Ellerman Foundation: Grants of up to £60,000 a year are available to support charitable organisations that are committed to ensuring the rights of people, society and the natural world. Applications are accepted at any time. 

Action Earth Volunteering Matters grants: Grants of £50 to £250 to support urban communities across Scotland in responding to the nature and climate crises. They’re looking to fund volunteer-led projects that promote participation in outdoor nature activities. Volunteers working in an urban or built-up area of Scotland are eligible to apply. Applications are accepted at any time.

Scottish Forestry Community Fund: Grants of up to £1,000 or over £1,000 are available to support community groups and organisations that encourage people to use woods more. Applications are accepted at any time. 

Inverclyde Windfarm Fund: Grants of up to £2,000 are available for community groups and voluntary organisations in Inverclyde to progress projects within their communities. Applications are accepted at any time.

Cycling UK: Cycle Access Fund: Offers grants through five funding strands to support those least likely to have access to a bike. The fund aims to remove barriers to cycling, make communities safer and reduce short car journeys. Organisations with a registered address in SPT, Sestran, ZetTrans or Nestrans regions can apply. Applications are accepted at any time.

The National Lottery Community Fund – Community Action: Offers grants from £20,001 to £250,000 for community projects lasting up to 5 years. They’re looking to fund projects that will improve people’s access and connection to nature and/or support people’s health and wellbeing. Applications are accepted at any time.

National Lottery Awards For All Scotland: Offers funding from £300 to £20,000 to support projects that bring people together and help communities across Scotland thrive. Funding can be used to start a new activity or continue an existing one. Applications are accepted at any time.

British Gas Energy Trust: Offers two funds to support British Gas customers who are struggling to pay energy bills. These are the Individual and Families Fund and the British Gas Energy Support Fund. Applicants must have received money advice/guidance within the last six months. Applications are accepted at any time.
