Scottish Communities Climate Action Network understand and share concerns about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and its ethical and environmental challenges.
As a climate action organisation, we believe it’s important for people to be informed about AI’s impacts and potential uses. We’re particularly concerned about how AI can deepen inequalities:
- Unequal access to climate solutions
- Energy and water consumption of AI
- Bias in climate data and decision-making
- Job displacement
- Impact on creative industries
- Tech monopolies controlling or influencing climate solutions and UK/global law
- Surveillance and environmental injustice
For this reason we will provide information about events on AI – to allow organisations and individuals to make informed decisions about whether or how to engage with it. We believe that understanding these technologies is crucial to navigating their risks and potential benefits.
