River Mouth

Story Weaver Joana Avi-Lorie comes back from maternity leave and shares an illustrated poem that came to her mind as lightning thunder the first week after her son was born. A short creative reflection on the need to shift and update our human way of life while healing from generational trauma, and shift the narrative about how we relate to our home planet’s resources.

I was born at the River Mouth.

Did you know there were once rivers on Mars and in Titan, the largest moon of Saturn?

I was born at a time when things were spilling out into a new course

The world as we have known it felt too fragile,

And much of what seemed to be

Really was not.
